Last fall, rumors resurfaced that Porsche would return to the F1 circus. Now it seems that this will not happen at all.
According to reports, Porsche has ended its evaluation of the program as they have not reached an agreement regarding collaboration with Red Bull and McLaren. Instead, it seems that Porsche will focus and concentrate its efforts on their existing motorsport commitments such as Formula E and the 24-hour race at Le Mans.
While Audi decided to commit to building its own F1 engine and concluded a deal to buy into the Sauber team, Porsche’s talks with the likes of Red Bull and McLaren collapsed because Porsche wanted to buy a significant stake – or even a controlling one.
This marks the end of the best opportunity F1 has had to bring Porsche back for the first time since the disastrous Footwork partnership in 1991.
