It has been 35 years since Volkswagen launched its first California model. It’s a camper van that offers a more comfortable living experience than just folding seats and rolling out a mattress.

Soon, a new model is in the works, and it will be presented in concept form at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf on August 25th, before being introduced in its production version sometime next year. The model is based on the long version of the Multivan T7 plug-in hybrid and, as seen in the sketch, will feature both a pop-up roof and awnings on both sides.

Additionally, a fully electric California model based on the ID.Buzz will also be unveiled next year.
