Merc’s GLC now comes in two versions, both tweaked by AMG and electrified.
The first one has a straight-four 2.0-liter engine producing 421 horsepower and is equipped with an electric turbo, as they call it. It also has a 14-horsepower electric motor, so the electrification aspect is not very significant. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, so it’s quite fast. However, its fuel consumption is 9.8 l/100 km, so it’s not exactly environmentally friendly.
The beefier version, Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E Performance, is more interesting with a straight-four engine producing 476 horsepower and an electric motor with 204 horsepower. Together, they deliver 680 horsepower and 1020 Nm of torque. The battery has a capacity of 6.1 kWh and is rechargeable, but you need to have a short commute to make it all the way to work on electric power alone, as it only offers a range of 12 kilometers on electric mode. The purpose of the electric motor and battery is to boost the car’s performance, and it does just that. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 3.5 seconds, and the fuel consumption is 7.5 l/100 km.
