This past summer, Caterham unveiled Project V, their first serious foray into electric vehicles. The car has classic sports car features but looks like nothing the company has previously presented. Now, the model is being showcased to the media and here Harry Metcalfe gets a walkthrough of it.
Caterham aims for the small car to tip the scales at 1.1 tons and to house a 55 kWh battery pack under its shell. This, in turn, powers a rear-mounted electric motor with 272 horsepower, and they estimate that 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) will be achieved in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). On a single charge, the range is expected to be up to 400 kilometers (approximately 249 miles). The exact timing of the launch is unclear right now, but the price tag is expected to be under £80,000.
