Google announced the other day that it will be possible to control apps connected to the smart home directly in Android Auto and Android Automotive OS.

Google writes:

To deliver seamless experiences in cars, we’re now enabling developers to bring their internet of things (IOT) apps to cars. This will allow users to easily manage IOT systems like home security and doors directly from their car. You can now launch IOT apps to production for both Android Auto and Android Automotive OS.

Smart home apps will now be allowed in their car system, meaning that developers of smart home apps, and other so-called IoT apps, can publish them in the Android Auto app store for download. Samsung and their Smart Things platform have already jumped on this train, as you can see an example of in the picture above.
