Bentley will also be electrified in the future, and a manufacturer like this cannot launch something meek just because it runs on electricity.
CEO Adrian Hallmark says they will not just take an existing electric car and put their emblem on it, but it should feel like a Bentley in every way and perform better than they have ever done before. The new drivetrains will deliver between 50 and 100 percent more power than the company’s combustion engines offer today.
If you look at the strongest engine right now, it’s the W12 in the Mulliner Batur.
It has 740 horsepower and 1000 Newton meters of torque. The electric equivalent would then offer 1480 horsepower and 2000 Newton meters of torque. Whether it will be really like this remains to be seen, but it is clear that Bentley’s upcoming electric cars will not be weaklings. The range will vary between 560 and 720 kilometers on a single charge, and it should be possible to charge from 10-80 percent in less than 20 minutes.
According to Adrian, 70 percent of Bentley customers expect there to be an electric car in the range within five years. Right now, they have around 55,000 combustion cars left to produce, which will take about three years.
“I’ve always seen our mission as being to create the world’s most successful luxury car company, here in Cheshire,” said Hallmark. “We need to stop looking at Ferrari – who remain everyone’s role model in our kind of business – and wondering how they do what they do. We want them looking at us, and I’d say we’re getting closer to that. It’s our mission over the next few years.”
