Goldmund Eidos SACD promises extravagant sound quality – but you probably have to be filthy rich to afford one.

Swiss brand Goldmund specializes in products for “hi-fi oligarchs” and other super-rich audiophiles who aren’t bothered by extra zeros on the price tag. The manufacturer from Geneva exclusively produces ultra high-end audio products, and now they have built a new SACD player for the most discerning enthusiasts.

The newcomer Eidos SACD is not even Goldmund’s most expensive player, but it is said to be strongly inspired by the most expensive flagship model, Eidos Reference, with which it also shares some of its circuit board solutions. The solid disc spinner is handmade in Switzerland and uses an SACD drive unit from D&M, combined with Goldmund’s own mechanical grounding and advanced damping mechanism, to avoid loss of information from the valuable discs.

Plays “everything”

The exquisite player can handle a variety of formats, including SACD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD Audio. In addition, there is a USB input so you can play music files from your computer, with support for PCM audio up to 384 KHz and DSD512. Goldmund Eidos SACD has both balanced XLR outputs and unbalanced RCA, as well as SPDIF, AES EBU, and optical digital outputs, allowing it to be connected to a range of other audio equipment. Perhaps one of Goldmund’s integrated amplifiers?

The price then?

The Swiss manufacturer is represented by only a handful of exclusive retailers around the world, including the USA/New York, China, Dubai – and Switzerland, of course. But if you want to become the lucky owner of a Goldmund Eidos SACD, you must be prepared to fork out. The player costs 90,750 euros. But that’s only half the price of the big brother, Eidos Reference!
