It’s becoming increasingly popular to buy vinyl records, but is it equally popular to actually listen to them? It doesn’t seem like it. Last year was the first time that vinyl outsold CDs in the US since 1987, with 41.3 million sales compared to 33.4 million for CDs.

However, research firm Luminate has looked into what happens to the records after the purchase and it turns out that only 50 percent of consumers who have bought vinyl in the past 12 months own a record player. In total, 15 percent of music listeners own a record player.
