There are many positive things that can be said about the sound of vinyl records – warm, organic, and pleasant. However, it’s not quite as pleasant when crackling and popping sounds come out of the speakers. Typically, these noises can be removed with a good record brush, but sometimes the records need a proper cleaning.

Not in the dishwasher, but preferably with a record cleaner that does the job more gently.

Pro-Ject is not only the manufacturer of some very good turntables, they also make record cleaners. The simplest of these is the VC-E2, which has a 0.5-liter tank for cleaning solution and a magnetic puck that securely holds the record in place during cleaning.

It’s great for those who only occasionally need to clean one or two records, takes up little space, is easy to use, and reasonably priced. The VC-E2 costs 450 euros and is already on its way to stores.

The larger VC-S3 holds 2.5 liters of cleaning solution and is better suited for those with a large record collection, especially if you often buy used records that may need to be properly cleaned. It does the same job as the simpler VC-E2 but is more robustly built with a more powerful motor and a larger cabinet with a slightly higher quality finish.

The VC-S3 is also on its way to stores, priced at 699 euros, including everything needed to get started.
