The open source organization Mozilla is now starting an AI division which they say will work to create open and trustworthy AI solutions.

There aren’t many details yet on how the new company, Mozilla.ai, will achieve its goal. Mozilla writes about the new initiative in a blog post:

The vision for Mozilla.ai is to make it easy to develop trustworthy AI products. We will build things and hire / collaborate with people that share our vision: AI that has agency, accountability, transparency and openness at its core.

Some observers see Mozilla’s initiative as a response to several AI solutions that have emerged in the past year, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, which have been closed solutions where users have no insight into how they were developed or what happens to the data they feed into the systems.
