According to sources contacted by The Information, Microsoft plans to release a “private” version of OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, for businesses that want higher protection of the data they feed into the artificial intelligence.
The private version of ChatGPT will be aimed at companies in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, the financial industry, and other companies with sensitive data. Unlike the current version of ChatGPT, the private version would run on servers that are separate from today’s ChatGPT, and the data fed into it would not be used to train future versions of ChatGPT.
In terms of pricing, Microsoft’s private version of ChatGPT would cost around ten times as much as the public version of ChatGPT that is currently available.
Microsoft has the right to sell ChatGPT through a licensing agreement with its creator, OpenAI. However, it seems that OpenAI itself also plans to release a private version of ChatGPT for businesses in the future, which will mean that the two companies will be competing for the same customers with essentially the same product.
