OpenAI is aiming for a future where their chatbot can be utilized as a tool for schoolwork, as reported by Venture Beat. OpenAI has now released a kind of guide called “Teaching with AI,” aimed at educators who are considering using ChatGPT in their classrooms.
ChatGPT is already being used by students today for seeking assistance or even cheating on their school assignments, something we’ve covered a few times before. However, OpenAI’s goal is for ChatGPT to be used in a more legitimate educational context, and they write in their guide:
We’re sharing a few stories of how educators are using ChatGPT to accelerate student learning and some prompts to help educators get started with the tool. In addition to the examples below, our new FAQ contains additional resources from leading education organizations on how to teach with and about AI, examples of new AI-powered education tools, and answers to frequently asked questions from educators about things like how ChatGPT works, its limitations, the efficacy of AI detectors, and bias.
Some of the examples mentioned about how ChatGPT is used in schools include the chatbot serving as someone students can debate tasks with, teachers using ChatGPT to create various types of tests, students using ChatGPT as a translator for texts in different languages, and perhaps the most interesting example, how students can learn critical thinking by questioning the answers they receive from ChatGPT.
