Google will soon cease support for Google Assistant on watches running Wear OS 2 or earlier versions of Google’s smartwatch operating system, as reported by 9to5Google.

In the latest update of the Wear OS app, users are prompted to switch to a watch that supports Wear OS 3 or higher if they wish to continue using Google Assistant:

Google Assistant support on this watch is ending soon. Please upgrade to a newer watch that supports Google Assistant and runs Wear OS 3 or later.

This will affect smartwatches with Wear OS released up until 2020/2021 that are unable to upgrade to Wear OS 3 or later versions of Wear OS. Among these are watches from brands like Tag Heuer, Mobvoi, Motorola, Oppo, Xiaomi, Misfit, Casio, and LG.

Google has not announced the exact timeline for when support for Google Assistant will be discontinued for watches running Wear OS 2 or earlier versions of the operating system. However, judging by the embedded post below, it seems to have already started happening for some users.
