Google started using its own Tensor chips with the Pixel 6 series almost two years ago, but so far, the chips haven’t quite matched up to those from Qualcomm and Apple. However, this fall, the chip could take a big leap in performance as Google is rumored to upgrade the processor cores. According to Android Authority, Tensor G3 will feature a single Cortex-X3 core, four Cortex-A715 cores, and four small Cortex-A510 cores, totaling nine cores. These cores are also more modern than the older ones used in Tensor G2.

In addition, the graphics part will receive a performance boost with Immortalis Mali-G715, supporting ray tracing. AI performance will be improved with a new Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), and there will be support for UFS 4.0 storage. Manufacturing is said to be done using Samsung’s enhanced 4 nm manufacturing technology.

The Pixel 8 series is expected to be announced sometime around September-October later this year.
