Google may not have sold as many smartphones as they had hoped since launching the Pixel series in 2016, but it seems to be turning around at least in one country.
According to Counterpoint, Google has climbed to become the second-largest phone manufacturer in Japan. During the first quarter of this year, Google reportedly quintupled its shipments in Japan, accounting for 34 percent of all Pixel devices sold globally.
This means that Japan has surpassed the United States as the country with the highest number of Google phone purchases. However, it’s not just in Japan where Google is doing well. The company has managed to increase its global sales by 67 percent in Q1 compared to the same period the previous year.
This is largely attributed to the success of the new Pixel 7a, which was reportedly 67 percent more popular than its predecessor during the first three weeks of sales. Apple remains the largest phone manufacturer in Japan.
