In an update, WhatsApp now gains the ability to send high-resolution images instead of lower quality ones.

The new option aims to preserve image quality better for large photos, although compression is still applied. When sending an image on WhatsApp, a new “HD” button will appear at the top of the photo editing screen. Tapping on it will provide two options with pre-set “Standard Quality” or “HD Quality.” Once the image is sent, each image preview will include a small “HD” tag, indicating to the recipient that the image in the chat is in HD.

High-resolution images will be rolled out to both Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.
