The Perfect Dark reboot was announced in 2020, but since then, we have mostly heard whispers about a troubled development. Last year, it appeared that half of the staff left the developer, The Initiative, and Microsoft’s head, Matt Booty, felt compelled to assure that the game’s development was going smoothly.
Now, IGN has spoken to 13 sources who claim to have insight into the project, and they suggest that no significant progress has been made since the announcement. The reasons are said to include the pandemic, technical challenges, staff turnover, and a lack of clear direction from management. The game is actually still in the “earliest stages of development” and estimated to be 2-3 years away from release.
According to the sources, the latest plans lean towards an episodic format, but there is no information on how the game would be divided if that were the case.
