Recurring reports have long suggested that Nintendo’s next game console after the Nintendo Switch seemed set to be released in time for the Christmas shopping season of 2024. However, new information now indicates that the “Nintendo Switch 2” will not be released until the beginning of 2025.
Sources to VGC, Eurogamer, and Bloomberg say that third-party developers have now been informed of internal details about Nintendo’s decision to postpone the release of their new console to the beginning of next year. According to Bloomberg’s information, some game publishers have also been told not to expect the console to be released until at least March 2025.
One of the reasons for delaying the console’s release is that Nintendo wants to have more of its own games ready at launch. Currently, Nintendo’s game lineup looks quite sparse for 2024, with only three first-party titles for the Nintendo Switch, two of which are remakes of older games.
Nintendo itself has not commented on the information.
