In Valve’s gaming service, Steam, the user statistics for July show that Linux has surpassed macOS and is now the second-largest operating system on the platform after Windows.

However, Windows users still dominate on Steam, with 96.21 percent of users running some version of Windows in July. In comparison, Linux had a combined percentage of 1.96 percent during the same month, while macOS versions gathered 1.84 percent.

It’s worth noting that the Linux version, SteamOS Holo, accounts for 42 percent of Linux users on Steam. This version of Linux runs on Valve’s own handheld gaming console, Steam Deck. This means that the increase in Linux usage primarily comes from those using Linux on the Steam Deck console and not on desktop computers.
