The past few weeks have revolved around the question: How big can Baldur’s Gate III’s successes be? The answer is: quite big!

Normally, release figures on Steam set the record that holds. Baldur’s Gate III is not a normal case. During the first weekend, it reached 816,000 players, and now that number has been polished to 875,000 (via Steamdb). Just a few thousand shy of Hogwarts Legacy‘s peak of 879,000.

Is the peak reached? Perhaps, but we shouldn’t take it for granted. In terms of simultaneous players, Baldur’s Gate III ranks ninth of all time. Among role-playing games, it’s fourth. Cyberpunk 2077 leads that subcategory.

It’s clear that Larian’s new title is on its way to becoming their biggest success ever. However, no expansion is currently in development. They argue that adhering to D&D rules is difficult, as high-level characters, for example, can essentially wish for anything and see into the future.

But considering Baldur’s Gate 2 got Throne of Bhaal, it would feel a bit, just a bit disappointing if the third one ended now. Or?
