Nintendo is unusually transparent about its sales and revenue, and thanks to that, we now know how much their top executives earn as well as the average salary of their employees. This information is disclosed in the company’s quarterly report, which covers up until March 31 of this year.
Unsurprisingly, CEO Shuntaro Furukawa is the highest-paid, earning 362 million yen (approximately 2.47 million dollars) in the past year. Following him is Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and Zelda, who received 292 million yen (just over 2 million dollars) in his salary account. These figures include both base and compensation-based pay as well as stock compensation.
The average salary for the company’s over 2,700 employees was just under 10 million yen per year (around $68000), including bonuses and other additional compensation.
Nintendo is unlikely to have any problems paying all salaries. With 125 million Switch units sold, they have created one of the most successful consoles of all time. Additionally, the Super Mario movie has been a hit in theaters, and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom surpassed the 10 million sales mark within the first three days.
