Amazon-owned Ring has introduced a new product for pet owners. The gadget is called Pet Tag and is an unexpectedly primitive device; it lacks tracking or wireless features and does not include GPS. Instead, Pet Tag consists of a QR code that is placed on the pet’s collar and is linked to an app.

If the pet gets lost, someone can scan the QR code to help reunite it with its owner. When the QR code is scanned, the owner receives a push notification, and the pet’s profile is displayed for the person who found it. The profile can include up to five photos, the pet’s name, breed, weight, color, as well as unique markings, health conditions, medication details, and microchip number.

Pet Tag is available for purchase in the USA for ten dollars.
