Last month, rumors began circulating that the premiere date for the fall’s major sci-fi film, Dune: Part Two, might potentially be moved to next year, a notion now confirmed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

The original plan was for the new Dune film to hit theaters on November 3. This is now being pushed to March 15, 2024. The reason for the film receiving a later premiere than planned is due to the ongoing Hollywood strike. The strike involves, among other things, actors who appear in films being unable to promote them. This has led to decreased interest in movies, as actors cannot discuss the films in talk shows and similar platforms.

The rescheduling of the premiere date for Dune: Part Two has also resulted in the postponement of the premiere for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The new Godzilla film was originally slated to premiere on the same date as Dune: Part Two’s release but will now premiere on April 12, 2024.

The Godzilla rescheduling also affects the Lord of the Rings spinoff, War of the Rohirrim, which will now hit theaters on December 13, 2024.
