BuzzFeed’s CEO and founder Jonah Peretti announced yesterday to his employees that BuzzFeed’s news division, BuzzFeed News, will be shut down.

The reason for BuzzFeed’s decision to shut down its news reporting is due to the company’s attempt to save money. BuzzFeed will cut down on its workforce throughout the entire company, including the entire news division. However, BuzzFeed plans to continue its news coverage through Huffington Post, a news site that BuzzFeed acquired in 2020. Some of BuzzFeed News employees will also be offered jobs at Huffington Post, according to Peretti.

In total, around 180 of BuzzFeed’s employees, about 15 percent of their workforce, will lose their jobs when BuzzFeed News shuts down.
