Deadline reports that Apple has abandoned its plans to produce a TV series based on Fritz Lang’s sci-fi film Metropolis.
The plans were announced last year, with the intention of having the series created by Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot. The original plan was to start filming the series at the end of summer, but that won’t be the case anymore.
The reason for Apple canceling the plans is reportedly due to the ongoing screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood, as well as the production costs ultimately being deemed too high.
Metropolis was released in 1927 and is based on Thea von Harbou’s book of the same name, which was published in 1925. Thea von Harbou also wrote the screenplay for the film. Above, you can watch a trailer for this classic movie.
