Google may be on the verge of launching a new brand for Chromebook computers, reportedly called “Chromebook X.” According to 9to5Google, this would involve laptops and tablets with slightly higher performance than many of the relatively inexpensive Chromebooks currently sold.
Initially, Chromebooks were developed to primarily run everything through the ChromeOS web browser, Chrome. However, today things have changed a bit, as some ChromeOS devices have gained support for downloading apps from the App Store, as well as Steam, and have also gained support for running Linux. To make this possible without major issues, Chromebooks with sufficient performance are needed. That’s where the “Chromebook X” is believed to come in.
There is currently no information available about the exact performance requirements for a laptop or tablet to be sold under the “Chromebook X” brand. However, it is believed to involve a yet unspecified amount of RAM and a slightly higher quality camera. Additionally, it is believed that there will be a requirement for the Chromebook to run on a processor with reasonably high performance, such as AMD Zen 2+, AMD Zen 3, or Intel’s 12th generation Core processors.
9to5Google has been in contact with a source that indicates the first Chromebook X devices may start appearing towards the end of this year.
