Something Apple didn’t talk about at the release is that the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are their first phones to feature the relatively new Wifi 6E standard, which can also utilize the 6 GHz frequency.
However, that’s not the only new addition when it comes to wireless connections; these phones have also incorporated Thread. At the moment, we don’t know why Apple has chosen to include Thread, which is the wireless protocol used by Matter. On its website, Apple simply states that it is “introducing the first Thread-enabled smartphones, opening up future possibilities for integration with the Home app.”
One potential use of Thread in the iPhone is that it can serve as a Thread border router. Thread devices require a border router to connect to the internet and other IP-based networks.
