Apple has showcased some news that comes with iOS 17, and the biggest of these is that Apple Maps finally gets support for offline navigation.
With the new offline feature, Apple Maps users can download portions of maps and use them for navigation or other purposes even when the iPhone doesn’t have coverage. A similar feature has been available in Google Maps for years and can be very convenient to have when driving in areas with poor or no coverage. Apple describes the upcoming feature:
Users can easily select an area on their device and download it with just a tap. While offline, users will be able to access turn-by-turn navigation for driving, walking, transit, and cycling; see their estimated time of arrival; find places in Maps; and more.
iOS 17 and the new offline feature for Apple Maps will be released for iPhone sometime in the fall.
