Shopping in a store can be enjoyable because you might get to talk to a knowledgeable person. Maybe. Now, Apple is starting one-way video calls so you can talk to a specialist when you want to buy an iPhone. Communication is two-way on audio, so you can talk to each other, but one-way on video, so the shopper can see the specialist but not vice versa. So you can continue shopping in your birthday suit.

They’re starting this in the US now, whether it will come to other countries remains to be seen.

“We’re constantly innovating to deliver an even more personalized experience for our customers, meeting them where they are to deliver the best of Apple,” said Karen Rasmussen, Apple’s head of Retail Online. “With Shop with a Specialist over Video, our team members are excited to connect with customers and provide exceptional service as they learn about which iPhone best suits them.”
