Apple has been granted a new patent for a modular laptop that could consist of more modules than what is typically defined as a laptop.
In the patent, which Apple filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in 2021, a modular laptop is described, comprising a base station to which various types of input modules and screens could be connected. In one of the examples, the input module is mentioned to be a turntable instead of a traditional keyboard.
In another, perhaps more sensible example, an image shows a keyboard and two screens connected to the base module. The idea there seems to be that one of the screens could be used as, for example, a drawing tablet.
As is customary with patents, it is not certain that Apple will ever manufacture products based on the newly granted patent. However, they seem to have at least considered the idea of developing a turntable laptop.
