Apple and Google have together developed an industry specification that they hope will combat unwanted tracking with Bluetooth tracking devices like Apple’s AirTags.

The new specification will allow devices from other manufacturers to be compatible with notifications for unwanted tracking detection on iOS and Android. Companies such as Samsung, Tile, Pebblebee, and Chipolo are some of the companies that have joined the specification so far.

Apple and Google will release a production implementation of the unwanted tracking detection specification by 2023 at the latest, and it will be supported in future versions of iOS and Android.
