Meta has now released the generative AI tool AudioCraft as open source. With this tool, you can create music simply by typing a text describing how you want it to sound.

AudioCraft consists of three different models: MusicGen, which generates music; AudioGen, used for creating sound effects; and EnCode, which compresses the sounds and music generated by the AI. The music created with AudioCraft might not be suitable as a standalone song, but it can provide musicians with a tool to quickly generate various background loops or elements in music.

Meta is not the only one experimenting with generative AI for music. Earlier this year, Google released a similar tool called “Music LM,” which can be used to create music with an AI that is fed with text.

You can read more about AudioCraft from Meta at the link below. There, you can also listen to some short examples created with AudioCraft.
