Artist Grimes tweeted that she is offering to split revenue from AI-generated songs that use her voice. She further writes that she has no record label or legally binding agreement and wants to support “viral” or “super popular” songs that already use her voice.
Grimes did not provide many details about how it would work, but she becomes one of the first artists to embrace voice cloning and artificial intelligence, which has become more popular in recent weeks. Just last week, we heard a song generated using voice models of Drake and The Weeknd, which quickly went viral and was later removed from streaming platforms. Universal Music Group then issued a statement claiming that training AI models on their artists’ works was a copyright infringement.
