This weekend, G7 leaders gathered to discuss various global issues. One point that was raised was the concern about AI and how it can be used for mischief, such as disinformation and general political disruption.

This concern led the leaders to agree on launching some form of “Hiroshima Process” to regulate the technology. The idea is that the governments of the different leaders will now discuss the topic and present the results of their discussions at a new meeting to be held at the end of the year.

Apparently, the EU is keen to see stricter laws for AI, while Japan has a more relaxed stance on it. This is because they were worried that if the legislation becomes too detailed, it could be challenging to keep it updated due to the rapid changes in AI technology.
