SpaceX tested for the first time to send its Starship spacecraft into space with the help of the Super Heavy rocket. Even before the test, SpaceX founder Elon Musk warned that things might not go exactly as planned, which turned out to be the case.

Starship and Super Heavy lifted off from SpaceX’s Starbase in Boca Chica, Texas, as planned, which was very impressive to see. When it was time for separation between Super Heavy and Starship at around 40 km altitude, something seems to have gone wrong. The vehicle started to rotate a few times before finally falling back towards the ground and exploding at about 30 km altitude.

However, SpaceX doesn’t seem too dissatisfied and said afterward that everything beyond liftoff from the launch pad was considered “icing on the cake.” If you skip to the 45th minute in the video above, you can check out the launch of Starship and Super Heavy again.
