The American aerospace and defense company, Lockheed Martin, has launched its subsidiary, Crescent Space, which will focus on building a network for communication between Earth and the moon.

The satellite-based network is called Parsec and is intended to consist of several satellites in orbit around the moon. Using Parsec, spacecraft and astronauts will be able to communicate with each other on the moon and with their home base here on Earth. The network will also make it possible to position users of the network, which will also provide spacecraft and astronauts with functionality similar to what exists in GPS systems here on Earth.

Crescent Space aims to have its first communication satellite in orbit around the moon sometime in 2025. There is currently no information available about when the network will be fully built and operational.
