Twitter has entered into a partnership with Israeli financial company eToro, which will enable Twitter users to trade stocks and various cryptocurrencies directly via Twitter.

The new partnership means that Twitter users will be able to receive financial information about companies and cryptocurrencies via so-called “$Cashtags” in the Twitter feed. When a user clicks on a cashtag, they may also be able to move to eToro’s service and sell or buy shares in the relevant company or cryptocurrency.

Elon Musk has previously talked about wanting to turn Twitter into a so-called “super app,” an app where users can manage a large part of their digital life in a single app. The partnership with eToro regarding stock and crypto trading may be a small step towards establishing a Western equivalent of the WeChat app, the app from Chinese company Tencent that Chinese people can use to perform a wide range of digital services.
