OnePlus claims to have developed a technical solution that allows the touchscreen on their upcoming phone, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, to be usable in the rain.

This would likely be appreciated by us Pokémon Go players and others who often struggle to get the screen to detect where we’re tapping when it’s raining. OnePlus calls this new screen technology “Rain Water Touch” and states that it’s based on a modified chipset for the screen, along with three new algorithms designed to handle screen interactions when it’s wet or being used by someone with wet fingers.

Below, you can watch a video clip comparing the screen of the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro with that of an iPhone 14 Pro, while water is streaming down over the screens.

OnePlus Ace2 Pro Rain Water Touch technology

Ace 2 Pro is set to be unveiled in China on August 16th. When it will arrive in other markets, likely under a different name, remains uncertain. If OnePlus’s “Rain Water Touch” technology works as well as promised, it’s not entirely impossible that similar screens will appear in other mobile phones, both from OnePlus and other manufacturers in the future.
