The Wall Street Journal has been in contact with sources who indicate that Amazon is considering launching a version of its streaming service, Prime Video, that would be partially ad-supported. If Amazon proceeds with the plans, it would likely mean that viewers could access the service at a lower cost, with their programs being interrupted for TV commercials. Amazon’s competitor, Netflix, has already introduced an ad-supported subscription where viewers pay a slightly lower fee for the service but lose the ability to download content for offline viewing. Currently, Netflix’s ad-supported subscription is available in the United States and a dozen other countries.
