Maxis just dropped The Sims 4 freelancer career update and it has players everywhere giving up their desk job for a new career at home praying for a task.
On top of that, the devs detailed massive plans to bring some hot, new downloadable content to The Sims 4 platform later this year.
They weren’t really specific on what exactly this update would have, but they were clear on one thing: It will be big.
And we know how Maxis and EA are with The Sims’ DLC.
It is basically the reason for buying the game.
So, while some of us are wondering about what could possibly be coming our way this fall, the rest of us are thinking ahead to the future.
That’s why we’ve gotta ask: What is The Sims 5’s release date?
Specifically, is it in development? Is it in the planning stages? How long are we going to be playing a game from 2014.
To be sure, it is still fresh and fun.
There’s really nothing wrong with The Sims 4.

But so much has changed in video gaming since it came out that we can’t help but wonder what Maxis will do with the next game.
For one thing, open-world games are huge now.
And anything that role-playing game elements is also big.
What would a Sims title look like that combined more of these elements in a more seamless way look like?
It’s not that The Sims stopped being fun, it’s just that the rest of the industry has caught up with them in many ways.
What was fresh and new about Maxis marquee IP is now old news.
But the biggest sea change probably has to do with The Sims 4’s move to support consoles in a big way.
Before, The Sims series was largely a PC experience.
Sure, there were games in The Sims franchise for consoles and even portable systems.
But the real Sims experience was still largely on the PC – until recently.
We think that whenever the next Sims game comes out that it will be just as big on consoles as it is on PC.
So that makes it somewhat hard to predict when it will come out.
The Sims 5 will definitely take advantage of next-generation technology and will likely incorporate the latest gameplay elements from hot titles like The Witcher and probably the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.
By that we mean that The Sims 5 will offer an open-world, immersive experience that is unlike anything previously on offer in a Maxis game.
That means that the best answer to the question is “not any time soon” and especially not while The Sims 4 continues to make money.
Yet, if you’re a Sims fan, you know this already. After all, EA is not known to move away from a game that makes money for it and The Sims 4 has a healthy economy and player base.
Still, it’s only natural to look ahead but we think we’ll have to wait until the next console generation settles in to have some idea of what The Sims 5 will be like, no matter when it will come out.
