Yesterday, the VR game Synapse, developed by nDreams, was released for PlayStation VR2. In the game, you play as a special agent who must infiltrate the mind of a supervillain and stop his plans for a terrorist attack.
It’s all a bit trippy but serves as a good excuse for the game’s aesthetic style and gameplay. The game combines firearms with psychic powers, allowing you as a player to use telekinesis to lift and throw objects to attack enemies in addition to using your firearms. Once you get the hang of it, it provides a really cool superhero feeling and offers some really epic moments at times.
In terms of gameplay, it offers a roguelike style where players can purchase perks and upgrades between rounds to make their lives a little easier. The majority of the game has a somewhat stripped-down graphical style that may look a bit dull in YouTube clips, but once you’re immersed in the game, it looks really good and it’s not something you think about when you’re busy being the ultimate John Wick with telekinesis.
However, the game has a limited variety of enemy types, so there isn’t much variation as you progress further into the game. The levels also don’t offer much new as you get deeper into the game.
But all in all, this is a must-have if you own a PlayStation VR2, not just because the game library is still quite limited there, but because it’s one of the better action games on the platform right now.
