During the Gen Con event in Indianapolis, USA, the card game Magic: The Gathering (MTG) celebrated its 30th anniversary. As part of the celebration, several announcements were made, including the introduction of various video game properties as trading cards in MTG’s future sets.

The new cards are part of MTG’s initiative called “Universes Beyond,” where players have previously seen cards featuring characters from franchises like Doctor Who and Lord of the Rings. Among the games and MTG expansions that will be featured in the future are Final Fantasy, Fallout, Assassin’s Creed, Ravnica Remastered, Murders at Karlov Manor, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, Modern Horizons 3, Bloomburrow, and Duskmourn House of Horror.

Most of the cards revealed during Gen Con will be released in 2024, but those eager for Final Fantasy cards in MTG will have to wait until 2025. In the video below, you can watch a panel discussion with MTG’s developers from Wizards of the Coast at the Gen Con event.
