Currently, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is available for free on Epic, but the main event we are waiting for is undoubtedly Homeworld 3. It will, of course, come with a hopefully epic single-player campaign and PvP multiplayer, but during Gamescom, Blackbird Interactive also unveiled a third game mode.
It’s called War Games and is a PvE mode that you can play alone or with two other players. It involves faster gameplay rounds where you choose from a number of pre-set fleets (you unlock more over time), after which you are assigned a series of missions, such as defending a computer-controlled vessel. It helps to complete the missions and gather the resources you can while moving on to the next map before being overwhelmed by enemies.
On the way to the final boss of the third map, you collect artifacts that allow you to choose one of three advantages, such as a new unit or some kind of bonus. During each round, you also make permanent progress that unlocks new starting fleets, among other things.
Homeworld 3 is set to be released in 2024.
