You might have missed how the Nintendo Switch performed in 2018 in terms of sales. Well, according to reports, the Switch has passed the 30 million mark in total sales thus far, trailing closely the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The month of January 2019, though, presents another clear scenario as the Switch outran both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As a matter of fact, the Nintendo Switch managed to get 48% in the total market share. The PS4 accounted for 42%, while the Xbox One only 10%.
The Switch Performed Better
The PS4 seemed poised to retake the title up through October of last year. However, after trailing to the Switch in the months of November, December, and January, the favor quickly changed. In fact, Nintendo also smashed a few records along the way, which include the best December unit sales for a console since 2010. It even reached the highest annual total unit sales for a console since the PS4 in 2015.
According to a report from the NPD Group and the Entertainment Software Association, the Nintendo Switch took the competition by storm in unit sales and dollars in 2018. This happened even by trailing for the majority of that year to the PS4.
Thanks To A Great Selection Of Games
A great selection of games also made the Nintendo Switch a better console, particularly the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as it came out in December. Smash Ultimate even became the 5th best-selling game of the year after being out in just over 3 weeks.
You can also pick the Breath of the Wild or the Super Mario Odyssey, as well as the 3rd-party games like Wargroove and Little Nightmares. The Mario Kart 8 is great on the Wii U, but the Switch is no different.
Next up is the Final Fantasy IX brought to the Switch as a reworking of the new PC and PS4 versions. Perhaps the form factor of the Switch has made it work wonders.

As a hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch provides a form of play similar to its competitors, namely the PS4 and Xbox One. This makes Nintendo compatible with its home and portable markets.
Accordingly, the Switch is the first console from Nintendo to seriously compete with Microsoft and Sony. Perhaps it is because since Nintendo seeks to innovate the traditional video game console. But, overall, in comparison with the Xbox One in terms of appearance, the Switch is more appealing.
