The upcoming major electronics fair, IFA, is about to start in Berlin, and ahead of that, both South Korean companies LG and Samsung announced a new collaboration.

The collaboration focuses on the realm of the ‘smart home,’ allowing users who have smart home devices, TVs, and other products from both companies to control these items using either of the companies’ apps. For instance, users will be able to control LG washing machines with the Samsung SmartThings app, just as they will be able to control Samsung TVs using LG’s ThinQ app.

Samsung and LG plan to introduce support for each other’s devices in updated versions of their apps set to be released sometime in the fourth quarter.
