Ever since Steven Spielberg released Jaws almost 50 years ago, sharks have been prominently featured as monsters and killers in movies.
In the new documentary film Sharksploitation, we take a look at how sharks have been exploited to play “villains” in many films. While Jaws will certainly be discussed in Sharksploitation, the film also examines movies like Sharknado, Sharktopus, Atomic Shark, Dinosharks, Planet of the Sharks, Cocaine Shark, and Zombie Sharks.
In a press release about the film, streaming service Shudder states:
In the wake of blockbuster classic Jaws, a new subgenre was born. This new documentary explores the weird, wild cinematic legacy of sharks on film and the world’s undying fascination.
On July 21, Shudder will begin airing Sharksploitation in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
