YouTube’s CEO Susan Wojcicki has announced that she is leaving the company after serving as the CEO of Google’s video service YouTube since 2014.
Wojcicki began her career at Google by renting her parents’ garage to Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, where they launched Google in 1998. The following year, she was hired by Google and became the company’s 16th employee. In 1999, she became the company’s marketing manager and in 2003, she became the product manager for Google’s AdSense program. Wojcicki is also said to have been behind the idea for Google to acquire YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion.
In the future, Wojcicki’s plan is to have some sort of advisory role at Google and their parent company Alphabet while she will step away from the daily work within the company. Neal Mohan will now take over as the CEO of YouTube. Mohan previously worked at the digital advertising company DoubleClick and its predecessors since 1997. He has been at Google since they acquired DoubleClick in 2007 and has been the product manager for YouTube since 2015.
