According to the market research group Kantar, Netflix lost over one million users in Spain during the first three months of 2023.

In early February, Netflix introduced a monthly fee of 6 euros for users in Spain who shared their login credentials with another household and also implemented technology to detect such sharing. This is now said to be linked to a decrease in the number of users by over a million, of which two-thirds were using someone else’s password, according to Kantar.

The number of cancelled subscriptions during the first quarter tripled compared to the previous period. Of all the remaining Netflix subscribers in Spain, one-tenth said they planned to cancel their subscription during the second quarter.
