Recently, Disney presented its quarterly report, in which it announced, among other things, that its streaming service Disney+ would become more expensive. In addition to this, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger stated that they will implement measures against those who share their Disney+ accounts outside their own households.

According to Iger, Disney already has data on how Disney+ users share their accounts. Next year, it seems they will begin implementing measures to prevent Disney+ users from sharing accounts outside their own households.

During a conference call after Disney’s quarterly report presentation, Iger said, among other things:

What we are saying, though, is that in calendar ’24, we’re going to get at this issue. And so while it is likely you’ll see some impact in calendar ’24, it’s possible that we won’t be complete or the work will not be completed within the calendar year. But we certainly have established this as a real priority. And we actually think that there’s an opportunity here to help us grow our business.

Disney+ competitor Netflix has for some time now been reaching out to users who share their accounts with someone outside their own household. Whether they have actually taken any actions against those who share their accounts outside their own household, I haven’t found any information about.
