The Tesla Model Y has accomplished something that no other electric car has achieved before – becoming the world’s best-selling car.

Last year, the model became the best-selling in Europe and California, and the fourth best-selling in China. However, during the first quarter of this year, it became the best-selling car worldwide, dethroning the Toyota Corolla. 267,200 units of the Model Y were sold, compared to 256,400 units of the Corolla.

If this trend continues for the Model Y, it may very well surpass one million units sold by the end of the year. Last year, Toyota managed to sell a total of 1.12 million Corolla units, so that is the number the Model Y needs to surpass to become the “winner.”
